Wire Rope Swaging (sounds like 'staging') tools are used for crimping matching swage sleeves onto wire rope. For a swaged temination to be safe for overhead use, the following conditions must be met: the swaging tool must be in proper calibration and be capable of recalibration after typical wear, the correct swage size must be used with the correct wire rope size, the correct groove size on the tool must be used with the correct swage size, and the correct number and spacing of compressions on the swage must be used following the swaging tool's instructions. There are many swaging tools on the market which are satisfactory for agricultural fencing, but there have been deaths from the use of these incorrect tools for overhead suspension applications.
