Cut Chain is Grade 80 heat treated alloy steel chain. The two primary types of chain rated for overhead use are Grade 80 and Grade 100. All other common types of chain are not permitted for overhead use. No chain commonly available in retail hardware stores is permitted for overhead use. The only common connections to this chain are by shackles, using the pin of the shackle into the end links of the chain. This chain cannot be easily cut with a normal bolt cutter. The chain links are sufficiently thick that you cannot \'peel back\' excess links if you need to shorten the chain. Chain is used for applications where tight tolerances for length are required, such as needing two exactly identical-length slings. This chain is also used to go over steel beams or otherwise support loads around the corners of objects. For any size Grade 80 chain wrapped over a sharp corner I-beam, the chain is always stronger than any standard forged shackle that you can connect to it. The chain is cut to the nearest inch and priced by the foot. In the product code, the asterisk (*) indicates the cut length in inches. Net weight listed is in pounds per foot.
